Brunel X-team is a clean technology bike design and racing team that has been formed in 2008 within the School of Engineering and Design at Brunel University London. The Brunel X-team is led by Dr Koen Matthys and is staffed with research and final year top students from the Mechanical and Motorsport Engineering subject areas. This year has seen a team expansion to allow the introduction of a new road going electric motorbike project. The team now has a racing and road division

Racing division: the main purpose of the racing team is to design, research and develop electric racing motorcycles in order to take part in the annual zero emission leg of the prestigious TT races at the Isle of Man. For 2011, the team is once again confident to have developed the trusted Triumph Daytona 675 based BX electric bike into a strong competitor, and aims to snatch the TTZero Prize for the fastest University team around the gruelling 37.73 mile Mountain Course. Road division: the road team has been brought to life to design, research and develop electric road going motorcycles. Rather than pure performance over a short distance as is the case in racing, the challenge for the road team is to solve problems of range, reliability, energy recovery, etc. Though the BR electric bikes are initially based on a Yamaha R6 rolling chassis, the team is also investing significant time and energy in the development of generic EV/HEV components for the wider low carbon vehicle market.
